Donald, remember that copperheads always travel in pairs.  Also, especially
if it is cool, you can smell them.  They smell like cucumbers or
watermelons.  They seem much more aggressive if found round your house,
especially steps or shrubbery.  They are much less aggressive encountered in
fields or streams, or even the road.  They especially like large clumps of
violets, and prefer them to iris here. While nobody has ever died from a
copperhead bite here in Missouri, they can make you very, very ill.  If you
are fond of weeding in the dusk, shine a flashlight first, their eyes
glitter red.
