Anner, I agree with you that the old roses are beautiful iris companions.  I
have many gallica roses planted amongst my iris; their intense color and
fragrance is magnificent.  I have other classes of old roses, a few striped
floribundas with scent and several David Austin English roses which receive
no care whatsoever and bloom beautifully off and on all spring, summer and
fall.
