I've got a few wonderful gallicas as well. Astonishing things! I'd gone and 
rooted them up before someone told me that was impossible. Mother says I 
could strike roots on an oar. Among my favorites of the very hardy roses is 
Madame Plantier. I don't have a nice stripeity old rose yet. I think I shall 
see if I can find one later in the month when I go to the old rose symnposium 
up at Monticello.  I mention old irises as companions to the old rose folk, 
and old roses to the old iris folk, and old peonies to anyone who will 
listen. They are all very classy and rewarding groups of plants.
