Dear Donald:

I believe the idea is that if the iris puts all its strength into the pod, it 
will not develop many or vigorous increases.  This would, therefore, diminish 
the amount of bloom for the following year.  You really have to look at each 
plant and how it is behaving before making a decision.  This is more of a 
problem with TBs than with dwarfs and intermediates.  Many times we have TBs 
that bloom on a first-year rhizome and never send out any increases even if 
we do not pod them.  If an iris has already developed several healthy 
increases, there shouldn't be a problem using it as a pod parent.  Hope this
