SHOW:Iris Society of the Ozarks

Hello all, 

We had our Iris Show Saturday May 15th. There were only 121 different
named cultivars near as I could count; a few were represented 2 or more
times; and 17 seedlings (3 blues in the seedling section). Of those
there were 51 first place blue ribbons awarded. We had a Historic
Section for the first time, but not many entries; they were: One Desire,
Black Beauty (the 6 standard/3 fall one, which got a blue ribbon),
Bayberry Candle, Butterscotch Kiss, Dauntless, Loreley, and Rhages.
Carol Goldsberry and Lillian Williams from Ponca City, OK were the
judges. 

I got a blue ribbon on Adam Mueller's MUSTARD SURPRISE and his seedling
85-18 which is a big red-violet with long, long horns that try to end in
spoons. My red ribbon was for Bayberry Candle. I love all these irises.

Best Siberian:    Bennerup Blue SIB -- Calvin, I believe
Best Youth:       Grandpa's Girl MTB -- Becky Ketcherside
2nd Runner-Up:    Gypsy Romance TB -- H. R. & Marjorie Gayer
3rd Runner-Up:    Harpswell Burst SIB -- H. R. & Marjorie Gayer
4th Runner-Up:    Sighs and Whispers TB -- Beverly DeWitt

This was my second show and first time to win anything but an honorable
mention. Next year I want to bring lots more irises and take better care
of them so they won't be missing parts by the time I get there!
