Michelle,
     What type of Irises are these you ordered?  Most types can be 
placed about 18" apart, [between cultivars] and left in place for three 
years before division.  Once new growth starts, fertilize them lightly 
with the fertilizer you mentioned having.
     I used to grow many types of Irises when I lived in Kentucky.  
Here, the Louisiana Iris is the best.
