Exactly. I just have to be patient...

I am thrilled to find these new bloomstalks forming on my SDB's as most of
them were new plantings from last fall. 'Mandarin' looks like it is going to
open very shortly as well as 'Bit of Chocolate'. (come to think of it, I
seem to have a lot of food named SDB's about to open. No wonder I can't
wait!) The SDB's seem to be a bit more hardy that the TB's here, where I
have waited up to 4 years for a first bloom on some. Even some border
bearded's like 'Batik' just don't seem to like our Alberta winters. I
planted several 'Batik' in 1996 and nothing yet. They have produced fine
foliage for me, so I thought I was actually going to get a bloom last year,
but no such luck. They are at the right depth, but are holding out on me.

Siberians, on the other hand, do very well with our damp cool Spring's. I
had several clumps of what was sold to me as 'Caesar's Brother' (I think
though, they may actually be the real 'Caesar' himself) which has multiplied
so quickly, they had to be dug and divided in 2 years. They went from a
small clump the size of a hockey puck to the size of a garbage can lid! (my
Canadian roots are showing with these comparisons I fear, as I was a victim
of some neighborhood kids taking my plastic garbage can lids for toboggans
last winter). The Siberian variety "Peg Edwards' puts on a non-stop show
every summer for at least 5 weeks - no fertilizer, just plenty of sun during
the day and then enjoying lovely cool showers at night.

I can't wait! (but I guess I am going to have to!)

the size of a hockey puck for comparison sake... hmm.)
