I think we knew what you meant, Sharon.
But, earlier this week there were some posts in which it was
mentioned that some people plant bearded iris seed as soon as
the pods ripen.
This may work in cooler climates, but I would not recommend
it. I have played around with it in two hot climates (TX, MS) and
still see it practiced by a few and note their poor germination and
the struggle for survival of the seedlings from the few seeds that do
germinate after being planted in the intense heat of July. Most of
the seeds are steamed or sour in the ground. So, if you have
made a good cross, treat the seed with TLC and give them a good
start. Wait until November and give them a home in a pot!
