Karen, I am not sure of siberians, but I have 6 JIs planted in a small
raised, rock mulched bed in my dog's yard (!) that have for company an amur
maple and a ash tree. The shade they receive is dappled and 5 of the clumps
(they are one year clumps) have several bloom stalks apiece. If the bird
bath is the only thing that will shade your siberians, and especially if
that shade is in the afternoon, I would go ahead and plant them. In the
small bed where I have the JIs, there is also a peony and a lamb's ear.
Lamb's ear really likes sun, but this one does great in dappled shade and
tries to overrun the whole bed every year. It might be helpful to plant
something that you know likes pretty much full sun in your area next to the
siberians and see how it does. If it does well, chances are the siberians
will too. Just don't pick something too invasive!
