The expression of plb (pbf) in TBs is essentially inherited as a single
gene dominant effect. As you noted in another message on this subject, that
is why a pbf cultivar always has at least one parent that also expresses
pbf. The extent of the pbf obviously varies from one cultivar to another,
which means that there must be modifying factors that can be selected for
as well as the basic gene that governs pbf expression. There is a transient
expression of pbf in some cultivars (usually only visible early in the
spring) that may be inherited differently from the more persistent pbf that
is usually observed.
