The original e-mail robin DID come before the Iris-L. It was set up under
the AIS Robin program and employed a modified return-robin format. I was
the director and, as far as I know, it is only archived on computers of those
who participated. throughout its lifespan. The plan, of course, was to
expand it into a set of special-interest Robins. It would take more digging
into the archives than I'm prepared to tackle today to answer the question of
how many such Robins got off the ground and who directed each one -- so I'll
trust your memory regarding the details of the Historical one.
The salient point is that the Iris-L, unfettered by AIS rules, was built
around a listserver and proved much better suited to the realities of
cyberspace. After a period of parallel existence and comparision of the two
systems, I recommended that the AIS e-mail robin experiment be abandoned and
its members urged to join the Iris-L. Of course, the conventional Robin
program continued as if the experiment had never taken place.
More than many care to know, but perhaps the memory-jogger some old-timers
want....
