SPEC: CULT: Iris japonica

This past spring, I sent a plant of Iris japonica to Missouri. The poor
thing soon died. I tried it again this fall, and the plant up there is also
in decline. It is being grown in container up there, and is indoors now.
What could be done to avoid this?
