Eureka!
Just found a tall stalk with three buds on Inaugural Ball! Its first
year here ('99) it bloomed profusely, but no rebloom. Last spring it
had only one small flower, but it set a pod x Samurai Warrior (wide
cross, but was delighted it 'took'.) Only 3 seeds, but I gave them
the full treatment -- drying, refridgerating, soaking, pot buried in
seedbed. Can't wait to see what they look like. Barring
catastrophes of course.
Now it has a bigger stalk with bigger buds; guess it will be
primarily a fall bloomer. Which is a delight when you're starving
for irises. I'll leave it out as long as it feels safe (lows now in
the '30s at night, though no hard frosts or freezes). Then I'll
bring it in, more confident now that it will bloom indoors, since
virtually all my fall-bloomers have, even with only tight buds.
