Re: HYB: Traitor - pink & green genes

Thanks Margie - looking at a picture of GIFT OF DREAMS, it hardly looks
pink, so that makes more sense to me now.

I have a tendency to forget about anthocyanin inhibitors which I guess
means both parents of TRAITOR might be half pink (genetically) the other
half being various anthocyanins plus inhibitors = no blue, so the pink
would show, but as many as half the kids could be blue or green blends.
(Sharon M, are you tearing your hair in despair?)

Both parents have quite a bit of white too, so I guess those areas don't
have any pink pigments in either parent, therefore none would be present
in TRAITOR in those areas. Right? Maybe?

I'm afraid the only way these inheritance patterns will ever stick in my
mind will be to either grow my own seedlings or maybe have a rogue's
gallery of family trees....So many pedigrees have seedlings with no
descriptions that it's hard to visualize, & my brain has a hard time
storing linear info.

<I have learned that the violet color in the hafts (found in GIFT OF
DREAMS) are from anthocyanin pigments. ...These colors are water
soluble.
.......Pinks (like CONTRITE), oranges, and yellows are carotenoid
pigments.
 These are oil soluble.
I've also learned that when crossing both phenotypes - one has the
possibility of producing a "blended" result/ or
iris. The color
pigments are not truely blended (not yellow x
blue = green). They are
not a mix - but rather the colors (though they
appear together in the
same area.) occupy a different part of the same
area. Margie V.
