Thanks very much to both Chris and John for coming up with a solution!
I was trying to remember what I used to do about this problem of deluge
of mail and had decided the easiest thing would be to go to digest,
which would only bring in a few messages a day & would be easier/quicker
to trash than individual messages.
Then I remembered that the only reason I went to no-mail in the first
place was because we hit one of thosespells where for days, there were
only messages about people's cats, aunt martha, un-edited digest replies
- in other words, no iris messages, but a lot of messages with iris
subject lines that contained no mention of iris. And a lot of digests,
since one reply that includes the previous digest is as long as a whole
digest <g>
