Hi Dana,
It is so great to have ambitious people like you giving your time to the
society. I'll start you off with Tony and I. We have given judges training on
many different types of irises, but are especially well versed in MDBs and
medians. We also do Awards and Ballots and Siberian iris training. Other types of
programs include the evolution of modern dwarfs and medians from species to
advanced hybrids; iris species from around the world; and irises and companion
plants. Our growing experience relates mostly to the northeastern and central
U. S.
We usually ask for a fee to cover the cost of handouts depending on the size
of the group, about $2.00 per person (We give out a lot of handouts). If we
have to travel more than 50 miles, we would like to be reimbursed for some
travel expense. Sometimes we are able to combine trips to give judges training
with other travel and not have any additional travel expense. This has happened
in Regions 17 and 18. Also, we have sometimes been invited to stay overnight
at a member's house rather than needing to stay at a hotel/motel, which saves
the club money. Often, we bring iris plants to be auctioned for the club's
benefit or given as door prizes
When asked to give judges training at AIS National conventions or at our own
Region 6 meetings we do not ask for any travel reimbursement, because we will
be there anyway.
