HYB:Pod Parent:101

Local/regional hybridizers, the illusive "they" told me the pod parent was
most important since it would transfer the most traits. I don't recall the
percentages that were quoted.

I was also told that you should use your seedling as the pod parent whenever
possible. Is this valid instruction?

Reciprocal Crosses: I struggled with this due to Linda's request, but I think
it goes here.

Another Ben Hager story! I wrote asking about reciprocal crosses. His reply
was that I might as well mix the seeds up and plant them together because it
wouldn't really make any difference.

On this list a couple of years ago, I questioned this approach (I'd never mix
them anyway) because I'd seen such a wide difference in an Amoena x Plicata
cross from my first year. Someone replied back that BH must have been
referring to the crosses of very similar irises, like pink x pink. That my cross,
being a "wide" cross would produce a great difference.

Anyone have experience with reciprocal crosses? Alike or not?
