Hi Everyone,
I am enjoying HYB 101 immensely. And Neil, the content of
your posts is so much more significant than any errors,
please don't worry. I didn't even notice.
Here's a question that I should have asked at least two
years ago. Oh well, better late than never.
What are the most difficult faults to overcome? Or maybe
traits is a better term. From earlier posts, it does
appear that heighth may be a stubborn trait in rebloomers
for example (though certainly there are some that are
taller.)
What I'm curious about is what traits when found in
seedlings would indicate that in general, even if they had
some qualities you were working towards, with that given
fault, it would be better to start over. For instance if
you liked a seedling's pattern, but to your dismay, found
it was single socketed on the terminal bud, would it be
more likely that success would be achieved by trying to
find a cross to improve bud count, or is it quicker to
discard something like this and try a different cross?
I'm bracing myself to make a ton of compost, but would
prefer to make less if possible : )
Thanks,
Robin
