I wonder if that's how most articles in both Tall Talk and the Bulletin
arise, by specific requests from the editor?
I wish Bill B would write an article for either pub on his mulch
experiments.
All Editors have the same problem - lack of material!
As past Editor of Tall Talk, and current Editor of SJI REVIEW and interim
Editor of MIS Medianite (plus a couple of locals), I am relentless in soliciting
articles (much to the irritation of some of my friends!). Anyone who writes
anything, on any e-mail group, in any publication, is on any membership list, is
"fair game" for me. Some say NO and I do certainly understand that but many,
who never volunteered, say yes. Bill B is doing a "column" in Tall Talk (and
welcomes topics- <Lazybillsaid@aol.com> (are you listening Bill?). Thank you
to the many on this list who said YES, including you Linda. (Neil M. has an
interesting article in the next TT on "Sports" starting from an iris-talk
discussion.)
I have greatly appreciated those Editors (unpaid heros!!!) who ALL want to
provide our readers (be it National, Section, Regional, Local) with interesting
info without killing themselves looking for writers. (We now have an
IrisEditors e-mail Group so we don't have to "reinvent the wheel") I know the Editor
of the AIS Bulletin (thanks Bruce for all your hard work!!) is constantly
soliciting articles and great pictures.
So, happy/prolific writers of interesting views etc.: offer your services to
your favorite publication-local, regional, section or NATIONAL! The worst
that can happen is someone will say - "not right now" but they (the Editors) will
be very appreciative! Not everyone has the time/resources that I do to read
all the e-mail robins to glean great "threads" and develop/whine/cajole
articles from great people who have good ideas or good questions!
All publications are a combination of good (mostly volunteer) editors and
good support from the group members and Board. Give them a hand!!
