My personal favorite garden markers come from the company advertised in the
back of the AIS bulletin called SEE FINE MARKER CO.
July 2003 issue: page 109.
The Sun Country Iris Society hosted the Region 15 Spring Trek this year and we
used these markers in all the guest gardens, plus many of us members of the
club bought some for our gardens.
They are heavy galvanized metal stakes, they have rounded smooth corners and
edges so you don't cut your shins or arms on them, they are as durable of a
garden marker as you can get. I ran over one with my small rototiller by
accident, and there was no damage. They can be painted, engraved, written on,
or labeled.
I have one of these markers that came with a potted iris I won at the regional
fall meeting in Tucson 3 years ago. After cleaning it, it look like brand
new.
Last year I replaced all my markers with these See Fine markers. They come in
different heights too. There are some heights for the medians and dwarfs,
some for the TB's, and some for the SPU/LA's. You can take a long one and cut
it with a hack saw to make it exactly the length you need, or you can just
push it further into the ground.

How about garden markers? Jeanette Graham, from Twin Falls, Idaho, has
given
me some markers like she uses in her garden and they are awesome, large
green
fiberglass plates on heavy duty double copper stakes. They are quite
attractive and blend in well in the garden. I am trying them out to see
how
they survive the extreme temperatures, sun and wind in my garden. They
have
space for an awesome amount of information because both front and back of
the
plate can be utilized. Some of the other members of our club are trying
them
in other areas where there are different climate conditions. Have any of
you
used anything similar and what were the results?
Patti, I have not heard of those markers - but like many others, I am bored
with "little grave stone" markers. Do you know who sells those and where I
could get a sample?
