Re: HYB: form

I was very impressed with the form of Lunar Whitewash (Innerst 03) when it
rebloomed this fall. Parentage is ([Bonus Mama x Twice Delightful) X sibling)).
White with beautiful ruffling. Perhaps this will help answer a question from
earlier in the year about whether sib crosses are a good thing. In my one
rebloom cross planted out this year of Again and Again X Harvest Butterfly almost
half of sixty seedlings have bloom stalks. Many will not make it to bloom
before cold sets in. If I had planted a month sooner more might have made it.

I have been corresponding with Keith Keppel about the ways the wrong
parentages get recorded in the Registrations and Introductions booklet. Needless to
say there are many reasons, some of them really quite amusing. In one case a
flock of sheep ran through the seedling beds scattering labels in all directions.
More often it is simply a problem of bad or confusing bookkeeping. In one
case a garden shed burned down taking the notebook to never never land. Anyone
out there with stories like this?

In one case I have looked at the recorded parentage of one of my own
seedlings and decided that it couldn't be correct and registered the parentage as
unknown only to go back and realize that the parentage was indeed correct. In any
case I think we need to take parentages with a grain of salt. In some
instances we are dealing with a best or an educated guess. Sometimes wishful thinking
might enter in and in a tiny, tiny percentage of cases the parentage is an
attempt to throw off the competition.
