Nobody likes me, everybody criticizes or ignores me! I am here, and most just
look right past me, the nerve!
I've been here only six months, and they expect me to be as good as those that
have been here a year longer.
They don't care that my bed is hard and dry, or that at times it is just
soaked and doesn't drain away for days, that my poor health is primarily due
to the fact that I hardly get any food, there are bugs that eat away at me, or
that I am often neglected. They just don't care, they think I should do as
well as the others in the real flower beds across the street or at the
neighbor's house. Those iris beds are a smorgasbord of nutrients, along with a
nice exchange of oxygen and moisture.
And yet, I survive. I even managed to squeeze out a bloom! However, as those
that criticize me might say, the bloom is on short runty looking stalks, the
branching is not good, the form of the flower is not nearly as big, the color
fades, the petals are not wide, the floriferousness is lacking....
Well, if that is the way they are going to be, then so be it. I'll make sure
I won't produce any offspring that will bloom next year...so there!
