CULT: White Iris/Red Beards Et Al

Hi Linda and others,

Yes, I did receive a couple of suggestions off the main list. One suggestion
was that Arctic Fox by Wood was a very good grower in a warmer climate. I also
received a photo of a "honey fire" by Suttons, but I think that this is
actually "Holy Fire"? If not, they're awfully close looking!

I appreciate the informed opinions.

One thing for sure that I have noticed as I have gotten involved with irises
is that catalog photos are often WAY off, and even that is an understatement.
This is particularly evident with one catalog I've seen. Keep in mind that you
are hearing the perspective of a newbie, and while you guys have seen these
flowers hundreds of times in some cases, less than a year ago I'd never heard
of about 3/4 of the flowers I've planted in my beds now, so the pictures
provided in catalogs are a big deal to the regular gardener out there. What's really
ironic, too, is that while you might expect a photo to look "better" than the
real thing for sale purposes, in several cases I've seen pictures that are
awfully bad representations of the real flower. Gosh, if I'm trying to sell
something I'd want the most attractive pic I could possibly muster up!! In the
spirit of Thanksgiving I will say to you that it is QUITE helpful when you all
post photographs of the plants growing in your gardens. Some of you have truly
stunning pics (Margie from Arizona, for instance). One picture of the iris
Naples should have won an award of some kind! Beautiful!! I hope to be able to
contribute my own pictures in a few short months :)

Thanks,
Mike
