Linda, I don't have any info on pedigree of CLARENCE, but I recall a
discussion some time back---maybe a couple years--that the cv has an unusual
genetic makeup--it is dominant amoena/zonal I think, per Chuck Chapman if I
remember rightly.  You might ask Chuck about that.

From the phenotype I'd say he's right, and if so, could be a very interesting
breeder, as zonal pattern requires a rather interesting combination of
factors, almost as complex as BC's do.
