Janet, I've lost the link to the database program. Could you post it again?
thanks,

Hi, Just for some clarification.... The Iris database is a runtime version of Filemaker. What this means is that instead of each person having to go out and buy Filemaker, several files are bundled to make it work as if it is a full blown application. It seals the code so that only the developer has it and that no one can go into the different files and potentially do any harm to the database or to their computer. I've developed this version on a PC - although Filemaker is a cross platform application, just like Microsoft office and various other programs, when the runtime version is made, it must be completed in the platform that you are intending to use it. Certain files like .dlls (dynamic linking libraries) and the like are more common on PCs and where as the on a macintosh many of those files are encapsulated. Once you have extracted the file, you simply click on the Iris Version 2.4.EXE This will open the database ready for data-entry. The user interface is fairly friendly. Sorry Mike, I've run out of space to put more labels. I really tried to put it under, but I had looked at many references and ended up with these categories. Although I recognize that some categories do overlap, (Laevagatas/Species) there were many times that I saw them cited separately. I will try to get the MTBs in next time. Then it will be a simple import and you can easily change the type in the list view. The more I learn about irises, the more the database gets developed. So it will always be a work in progress. I don't know if there are other databases like this out there that are free and as comprehensive. I've put my passions together - organization, irises and computers. The numbering system is for your own seedlings. Originally I thought I would follow the number convention of the registered iris, so you can emulate that system. If you already have the registered number of an iris, then when you create the record, you'll be able to enter it. Therefore I believe this covers all of the concerns for the seedlings as well as other irises that you end up having. :D I think you will like that feature. Although it may not be absolutely perfect, I did have to take into account how the registration for an iris occurs and also that various individuals will use their own conventions for naming. I tried to get a happy medium here. I hope this clarifies some of the stuff.
