RE: new iris book

I examined the new Austin work at some length at the bookstore the other
day. I'm reserving final opinion until I take another look, but my initial
impression is that, with the resources that Timber Press was prepared to put into
it----copious color, heavy paper, serious glossiness and heft--- a wonderful
opportunity to produce something really important and splendid was not
explored to the fullest. I think it might have been stronger had some additional
expertise been brought to the project as regards both text and photography.

Anner - why so negative about this book? It's only a book FGS. There are so few new books about irises, and many of us don't think twice about spending big money on a newly introduced iris rhizome. It seems to me that your comments will be very off putting to anyone who would consider buying this book. I bought it sight unseen, through Amazon for around $55 AUD, which is much less than I paid for the Graeme Grosvenor book some years back (now unavailable). I took it to the Victorian Iris Society late show, and didn't see it for 3 hours as everyone poured over it and the decision was unanimous - they loved it! It doesn't have to be perfect to be worth buying. I am yet to come across a book that is perfection. It has so much to offer the iris book loving person, starved for new iris literature.
If you can do better - please write us the perfect book.
Cheers, Jan
