Hello Paul,
I think, you might be on to something here.
Dorothy Willott has also mentioned to me, that she
used to grow a mellita clone that rebloomed.
As for the possible contribution from variegata,
that's an interesting point. And maybe I'll be able to
see if that matters or not, since I've got some lines
started that incorporate suaveolens (rubromarginata)
with pallida (KUPARI). No variegata in those, but so
far no rebloom in the F1. It'll be intersting to see
what the F2 will bring.
Sorry to hear that you lost your reblooming seedling
from TOM TIT, that could have been the beginning of a
really neat line of reblooming diploids.
Another question that has popped up for me is... the
Iris cengialtii I used, isn't known for rebloom, but
neither is CLOWN PANTS (at least not the Fall rebloom,
like these two seedlings are exhibiting) but... I
should still be able to breed more rebloomers by
backcrossing to either cengialtii or CLOWN PANTS,
right??
Actually my leanings right now are to intercross these
two and/or cross them with something (another diploid)
that blooms fairly early and increases like mad.
I figure that way I could maybe get the rebloom to
happen a little earlier in the season. As for the fast
increase, I thought that would help provide plenty of
fans in all stages of growth.
I welcome anyone's thoughts on this :0)
Thanks, Tom
