OT: Fredericksburg Area Iris Society fall meeting

Just got back a little while ago from the harvest dinner of the Fredericksburg
(VA) Area Iris Society and am waiting for my neighbor to drop by and take the
--  there he is now  -- leftover baked beans out of temptation's way.  (Thank
heaven.)  I'm located just about between the centers of gravity of the
Chesapeake and Potomac Iris Society and FAIS, so belong to both.  Both
societies have a summer picnic, FAIS has a fall pitch-in lunch (today), and
C&P has a Christmas party.  FAIS is the leader in Region 4 membership, and C&P
is trying to catch up.  Jim Schroetter, past president of FAIS (and just
joining iris-talk and photos) clued in the attendees to the "flame thrower" he
has just acquired with which to zap the weeds.  Propane, that is.  The C&P
Christmas party gives us a chance to bring in slides or CDs and share what's
happening in our gardens  --  something it's hard to do during the seasons
when we're in the garden.  As always, we had a good time at the harvest dinner
--  and the cranberry crunch was great!  --  Griff
