Initially, I wasn't interested in breeding plicatas at all. Just listened
to all the advice about muddy hafts some 20 years ago. It kept me from mixing
selfs and plicatas much for several years. My concern was in the direction
of the selfs and neglectas, rather than the plicatas.
I wasn't fond of the purple on white plicata, but I made a couple of
crosses. Did Jessies Song x Earl of Essex and got three pretty rebloomers. I
didn't bother to try introducing any because it had already been done. I did use
them in breeding.
I had some early success with plicatas and amoenas.
Then, I got the urge to work with the red over yellow plicatas, and I've
done a lot more breeding in this direction. I've found it to be an interesting
experience. Now, I'm well past worrying about the muddy hafts.
Something like 95% of my crosses are done with some rebloom potential.
