Several experienced hybridizers have said much the same thing - anything can happen. All the pedigree research and trying to figure out what's going on helps with planning, but you never really know what you're going to get.
I used to think 10,000 seedlings for one introduction was a staggering number, but Sharon pointed out that in my growing conditions, each <surviving> seedling represents a <lot> higher number of seedlings (and germinating seeds) in good growing conditions. My estimate is that each survivor here might be equivalent to 2 to 50 survivors elsewhere.
So I may have 5 or 10 introduceable seedlings already, counting all the seedlings I've already composted <g>
In any case, her list of color combinations in the progeny left me with the distinct impression that, plan as one will, in the final analysis, much of success is a crap shoot. Roll 'em! Cordially, Anner Whitehead Richmond VA USA
