<<I notice you haven't registered anything from RETURNING CHAMELEON
- is it a stubborn breeder, or have you not tried to use it much, or too
many other interesting crosses to try, or you don't like some things
about it, or ?>>

All of the above. My field records are packed away in a box in a closet.
They would show what I crossed but didn't get takes on. I have memories of
trying to use it in the early years, and memories of seeing some really bad
seedlings! But no notes so far to back that up.

1992 it seems I did cross it by Pink Attraction. Planted out five seedlings
in 1993. In 1994 I have notes that one is extremely healthy with good
increases. Trail ends there, during the time I quite making crosses. My guess
is that these are the ones that were ugly? I have vague memories of some
really pale pink seedling of inferior quality with that seedling #!! Five
seedlings would hardly be a definitive trial!

Anyway . . . proof that it will set pods and sprouts seedlings.

In 2004 I crossed Returning Chameleon and Light Rebuff in both directions.
Then I crossed Radiant Bliss X RC. All produced seed but sprouts. My
thoughts are that they sprouted and were killed by a late freeze.

RETURNING CHAMELEON was very pretty in the display bed this past spring.
Taller than usual. Again, I was so busy with other things that I didn't try
it. It might be a great addition to the 1810 line.

Lots of sad pages in these books! Some sad stories of reblooming irises
lost or just left! So many reblooming seedlings were left behind. I hadn't
planned to save any, but I'm so glad I did . . . Vanishing Act, Star Gate,
Radiant Bliss, Another Bridge, Tara's Choice and Theme Master were all "rescues"
from the 1993 & 1994 seedling crop.

G22-1Re & G22-2Re. Earl of Essex x (Laced Cotton x Autumn Encore) pollen
parent of Vanishing Act.

I see notes saying I planned to use Returning Chameleon on C20-1Re
(Christmas Rubies x Foxy Lady) All I have to work with are the books that contain
takes. It looks like I was really into some seedlings with Christmas Rubies.
Immortality X (Christmas Rubies x Foxy Lady) produced five that bloomed in
the fall of 1994. F34-1Re (Sept 26, 1994) was lavender with yellow beards
produced 14 buds and three stalks! Also a lacy plum with bad hafts, a pale blue
with veins, and a palest yellow! The irises in the pod parent have both died
here in Allen County. (once each)

Notes say F62-1Re showed signs of having early rebloom in 94. (no actual
date) (Sugar Blues x (C33-1: Immortality x Titan's Glory) Records say a total
of 3 seedlings bloomed that fall with #1 showing the most potential.

Found evidence of pod fertility and seedlings planted on Summer Radiance.

More?
