After all that reading a few years ago, it seemed pretty clear that climate while seed pods are developing can have a big effect on dormancy, viability, etc etc. Throw in some epigenetics and the total mishmash of species mixes and inbreeding that have gone into modern TBs and I have given up on trying to extract meaning.
Well, not really ;-) And it is interesting to hear about these differences. My elderly refrigerator used to freeze things now and then, so last winter I raised the thermostat high enough to make sure lettuce wasn't freezing. Any idea what temperature your crisper is?
Maybe LUMINOSITY throws more seeds than IMMORTALITY that require a second round of chilling (i.e., two years outdoors). ??
<My first batch of seeds went in the crisper on 7/24. To date I've found 318 sprouts from 512 seeds, all TB crosses and all sprouted while in the fridge. Oddly enough, the lowest percentage to sprout from the first batch is Betty Dunn X Luminosity, with only 1 of 23 apparently healthy seeds. No idea if this means anything.> -- Linda Mann east Tennessee USA zone 7/8 East Tennessee Iris Society <http://www.DiscoverET.org/etis> Region 7, Kentucky-Tennessee <http://www.aisregion7.org> American Iris Society web site <http://www.irises.org> talk archives: <http://www.hort.net/lists/iris-talk/> photos archives: <http://www.hort.net/lists/iris-photos/> online R&I <http://www.irisregister.com> --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS
