Linda, I had squirrel problems in BG.  It was my belief that they were  
burying their surplus in the pots.  Not eating the seedlings.  Damage  to seedlings 
was incidental.  
 
I grew sunflowers and made the mistake of leaving a couple of heads to dry  
on the patio.  Almost over night they stripped the sunflowers and made  tracks 
in the pots.  Next spring I was gifted with any number of sprouting  
sunflowers.  

Maybe???
