Lee: Have you looked on the Iris Encyclopedia on the AIS website. There are 3 images of Picador. ----- Original Message ----- From: "lee hill" <leehillmm@hotmail.com> To: "Iris Group" <iris@hort.net> Sent: Monday, November 1, 2010 11:25:18 AM Subject: RE: [iris] picture website Thank you, Paul! I've been following this iris chat group for more than ten years in hopes of finding the elusive root beer iris. Picador is its name, I think. My daughter is in Germany now, and she will be able to look in these historic iris gardens for it next spring. She and I have searched all over the US. She brought me three different slips this summer from old neighborhoods in Connecticut that met my description of appearance and fragrance. She thinks at least one or all of them may be the root beer iris that grew in my grandmother's and my mother's gardens in the 1950's and 60's here in Minnesota. They are all growing well, so far, and I am hoping for blossoms next spring. Should I provide any kind of mulch to help them overwinter?~Lee > Date: Fri, 29 Oct 2010 13:59:25 -0400 > From: pharcher@mindspring.com > To: iris@hort.net > Subject: [iris] picture website > > I have done many many searches for picutres of Historic Iris and had never come across this site until just today. Yes, it's in German, but the names aren't of course. It's even has them grouped by time period. I had originally done a google search using "Red Flurry" iris and got an Excel list of Europe grown plants. Editing/reducing the link took me to the site. HIPS members I'm sure are aware of it, many of us may not be. > > http://www.irisparadise.com/Iris/index.htm > > --------------------------------------------------------------------- > To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the > message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS
