You are welcome, Betty. I thought of you when my pen gunked & globbed while trying to make new labels last week.

<I'm sure each paint pen uses it's own chemicals.>

Chuck, these are the water-based paint pens from Painters. The paint is very water soluble before it dries completely. Using a quick hot water rinse under the faucet to 'degunk' the tips has worked well in the past, but like I said, I was suspicious about losing a few labels over the season.

And it's impossible to know how much the paint is being diluted, because it's impossible to tell how much paint is left in the pen. I suspect I may have tried to wash a pen that was basically out of paint.

To use water, to avoid diluting the paint, I guess the best approach would be to pull the tip of pen out and let it soak in several changes of hot water until all the paint is washed out of it, then dry it, put it back in the pen.

I was really surprised that the acetone did any good at all. But since it did wipe the old labels clean, I thought I'd give it a try.

But who knows, I may go back later and discover the whole tip has dissolved ;-)
