I'm having a hard time understanding what traits distinguish "preferential vernalization"(Oz/CA) rebloomers vs "summer" (i.e., warm season) rebloomers here, where the growing season can last from Mar thru Oct. Range of temperatures & duration needed for bud set?

Most of the "summer" bloomers here seem to require a few nights of relatively low temperature ~6 weeks before bloom, but IMMORTALITY either doesn't require quite as low temperatures or the secondary (i.e. growth?) requirements seem to be easier for her to meet. Ditto BELVI QUEEN. BQ will more or less bloom all summer with enough water and if I keep the weeds down a bit. Plus it reblooms in the SW - not sure if that's only with cool weather trigger (i.e., fall/winter).

The year that IMM bloomed 5 different times, more or less one stalk per month, all stalks came from one clump. Most summers here have many overnight low temperatures <70o F. That doesn't seem to be low enough to trigger rebloom for most of the Zurbrigg "summers" here. Seems to take nights in the 50s. But maybe that's low enough for IMM, with mature fans.

I've been hoping that the summers and the CA/Oz rebloomers have the same set of genes for rebloom <except> for the temperature limits. Separate genes? One for temperature to trigger bud set, the other that makes it possible to trigger bud set without vernalization? Or all one gene? Or 5 or 6 genes to control the whole process of bud set?

If your theory is right, Chuck, that "summers" and Oz/CA rebloomers are different genes, I'm not going to like that here in the "vale"! Esp if Oz/CA trait is also recessive. Or worse yet, it's determined by the pod parent!
