Re: Iris blooming, photos, kiwi visitors.

In a message dated 96-11-02 23:39:30 EST, you write:

<< Congratulations on your first show! My first was a nightmare. I
didn't know not to take those old nasty brown spathes off my iris. I
also did not know to cut them off at ground level. My best was a
second. I would have slunk out never to reappear if not for my good
friends and iris mentors Louise and Mason Kester. They convinced me to
try again and helped me figure out the basics. Next show I took Queen! >>

Dana--hooray for you, for perservering! And three cheers for your iris
friends and mentors. This is what mentors--and local clubs should do.
Encourage and teach newcomers. None of us were born knowing this stuff!

>From my own bag of bad memories, I well remember some hoots that occurred the
first ( and last time, I sincerely hope!) I entered a misnamed iris,
innocently believing for years that it was what it was labeled as when I got
it! That experience has, I hope, made me a little more sensitive to the fact
that honest mistakes will occur, and how the "transgressor" is approached and
treated will make the difference between whether they ever show up again or
not!
