I used to believe that one should never ever cut their iris foilage.
However over time I have modified my position. I believe that late fall
or early winter would be ok to cut the foilage. My reason now is that
these leaves are near death and will brown and disintegrate over the
winter. The iris will develop new leaves quickly in the spring. I
still firmly believe that the foilage should not be cut before this.
I just finished reading an old issue of the Society for Pacific Coast
Native Iris (Fall 1994). They refer to themselves as such but all
references in the issue to the plants or seeds they refer to them as
PCI's.
