SPEC:-VA and MD

Rodney asked:

> D.C. -baltimore area" and it lists Iris cristata, verna,
versicolor, and virginica as all > living in my area.

Can anyone on the list confirm the presence of these irises in MD? I
seem to remember from our previous discussions that virginica var.
virginica was not found that far north.

According to the Virginia Atlas of Flora from the Division of Natural
Heritage of the Virginia Department of Conservation, the native irises of
Virginia are Ii.cristata, verna, prismatica, versicolor, virginica. Each is
found in a natural population in at least one of the three counties forming
the upper border of Virginia. Cristata, virginica, and prismatica, for
instance, are all found in Fairfax county across the Potomac from D.C.

Hope this helps.
