Just returned from the C&P Fall meeting, at which our own Mike and Ann
Lowe, of the Historic Iris Preservation Society, presented an inspiring
program of slides on the development of color in irises. The
presentation of 105 slides went crisply and very informatively, tracing
the development of the major color classes and patterns from the
earliest to the most recent examples. It was especially valuable to
hybridizers, but of interest to all. Clarence Mahan was honored for his
innumerable contributions with a beautiful painting of SUKY done by C&P
member Bill Poesch.
There were door prizes, of course, and, as usual, yours truly might as
well have been on Mars *@!%&#^)(%! The chicken, rigotoni and rum cake
were great, however. We conspired to have two pieces of rum cake
delivered to our youth chairman, Ryan Carter, who, mirabile dictu!,
didn't want the second piece. (What is wrong with that boy?) So, Barbara
Rivers and I split it.
