I noticed that Marte uses pine needles (or straw) on her new TBs &
SDBs.....I use the needles on all bearded irises. We of course
don't have any Monterey pines here like Al does in CA but our
flowering plants do extremely well with our native pine needles as
winter protection including all classes of bearded irises.

The JIs and SIs get to keep them all year long and we have good and
	steady summer bloom on all.

	Cheers,

Ellen (bracing for snow again today :-O)
