Thanks Anner, and I will attempt to do as you suggested, but the iris
concerned is exactly as you describe and matches the HIPS photo exactly.
Except for the slightly deeper fall colour, the HIPS photo could be a
photo of the iris I was holding besides it. An old posting from Mike
Lowe suggests that there are very few irises that are very close in
appearance to HC. Is this correct? and if so, which irises would they
be?
As far as growing in shade, I have not tried it in a shady position, and
I think that any 'shade' I gave it here, would still provide it with
heaps of sunshine.
I'm not overly fond of the older irises that grow around Castlemaine,
but this one is definitely worth growing, and Elisabeth Noble, which is
flowering at present, is a gorgeous iris.
