Re: Mary's Garden photos

Anner,

Did you receive the post yet? I have been thinking of Mrs. H winning
blues and have decided that it is yet another tribute to the durability
of TBs to endure in less than ideal circumstances. She certainly had
lots of irises planted, and to a one they were growing in a THICK cover
of weedy growth.

Your remarks on the "art shades" have been most enjoyable. I find
that I personally am attracted to the 'murky' shades, as evidenced by
the number I now have acquired. Perhaps I won't like them when they
bloom as well as I am drawn to the idea, but I do think you were absolutely
on the mark when you stated they enhance those iris of more flamboyant
hue when planted nearby. I prefer the description of 'subtle' or 'quiet'
to
'murky'. It is true they are not standouts when viewed from a distance.
They do not have the carrying power, but they can be very rewarding when
viewed closely. They remind me of evening or early morning before it is
either really light or really dark, and colors are no longer quite as
visible,
blending together in a muted way in the dimmer light. You have to look
more carefully, but sometimes the effect is quite serene and tranquil.

In any case, your contributions to iris-talk frequently elevate the tone as
far as I'm concerned. I do appreciate them. This is not flattery, only
credit
where it's due.

Donald.
