I have around eight grape vines growing in my yard, both standard American
varieties, such as Concord and Niagara, and French(vinifera)-American
hybrids. Seeds from these germinate freely wherever birds drop them on
cultivated ground, such as vegetable, rose, and iris beds. They do not seem
to germinate near the parent plants. Perhaps the mature vines are capable
of inhibiting germination within their root zone.

Anner also hypothesized that the seeds might be crushed when the grapes are
pressed. I doubt this is so. If the seeds were crushed they would probably
add bitter flavors to the juice. Remember, the traditional method of
pressing grapes is to have a bunch of people tread on them in a vat - not
exactly a process that is likely to crush something as hard as a grape
seed.
