TB: Pinks & Fragrance

Ages ago, I remember hearing the story that one of the early hybridizers of
pinks noticed that the best breeders for pink had an almost overpowering
fragrance. It proved to be a good marker trait because it turned out to be
closely linked to the type of carotene whose development could be diverted
so that it could become lycopene instead.

It seems reasonable to assume that the linkage has been broken by now and
today's pink TBs include some with a light, sweet fragrance.

Observations, anyone?
