Hi all,
Having almost recovered from the devestation of a visit from Mr. Fox 3
weeks ago, which left me completely Chookless, I visited a local breeder
of rare poultry varieties yesterday. The visit was interesting and
informative. None of the enclosures were labeled, but the breeder knew
every bird, and even explained how he could tell the day old chicks
apart. Having placed my order, I was about to leave, when I noticed a
single orange iris in bloom. In front of the iris was a 2' tall stake,
with a 3" x 12" board attatched. On the board, in orange paint, was the
label "Orange Iris".
Now I got to thinking, that with my garden full of discretely labelled
irises, all of which I know by name, I really need a large sign on my
chicken shed, declaring in brown painted letters "Brown Chooks".

Silky hens, A pair of Silver Grey Dorkings, and 2 Cayuga ducklings, for
what it's worth.
