Real money, but remember he only gets money from Amazon when you buy a book.
If you buy a book on one of his recommended lists, like the list for iris-talk at:
http://www.mallorn.com/bookstore/lists/iris-talk.cgi
he gets a nice commission. If you just go through his site and buy just any
book, he gets a smaller (but still decent) commission. Remember, any of the
banners at the top of any of his pages (he hosts several list archives) will
work in this regard.
