If you are correct about it being cultivar specific, then I should expect
it in the future on established irises, not just new acquisitions. The
negative there is disappointment, but the positive would be that it is
not a virulent threat to the remainder of the iris garden. Either they
would be reistant or immune, or they would be susceptible. Then
it would be a matter of determining which cultivars do not get rot as
I believe you are doing. I think our Texas weather patterns could be
a deterrant most of the time. That will have the unfortunate effect of
having apparently healthy, rot free irises until that drastic year when
one discovers that it has been the weather, not resistant irises, which
has allowed one to escape rot ravage. Depressing thought.
