In a message dated 98-11-14 08:23:06 EST, you write:
<< Somebody on iris-list, I think, or maybe offlist, observed a couple of
years ago that listers get a bit cranky, obnoxious, & impolite around
full-moon & holidays. Must be getting close to Thanksgiving. >>
I made that observation to you, Linda, privately, and as I recall you said you
had heard it from another person as well. I had come to anticipate fracas or
moodiness--I don't believe I used the term obnoxious since I don't care for
the word--at those times.
But I don't feel that a candid and impassioned discussion of a matter of great
interest and concern to many of us such as moving AIS into the era of
electronic research tools, is seasonal anxieties coming to the fore.
With as many high level computer scientists, statisticians, and other
scientists and librarians and so forth as we have here--to say nothing of the
rest of us who are energized by the possibilities inherent in the project--it
seems reasonable to expect intricate and passionate discussions of these
matters. I personally don't consider any of this recent vital interaction off-
center at all.
But yes, in the old days especially, you could pretty well count on some
tirade or snit or misunderstanding at regular intervals.
