The clone of variegated I. ensata I grow retains its full variegation year
around and is one of the more distinguished foliage plants in the garden. It
is a no-name garden center plant and grows very successfully in the perennial
bed where it is a valuable companion to variegated euonymous and dark leaved
plants. At no time in the season does the foliage look ratty, which cannot be
said of all beardless irises in this climate. I was not aware that SILVER BAND
had fugitive variegation and am happy to know this, but unhappy to hear it.
